Booking a Flight

The first thing you need to do is to buy your airline tickets. You can book a flight to Salt Lake City directly through the airlines, through an internet travel company, or through a local travel agency.  Make sure that the internet company or travel agency you work with is reliable.

Give yourself plenty of time between each flight. Flight delays and passing through U.S. Customs may take additional time.

*After you make your flight plans please contact American ESL Academy with your itinerary.

Health Insurance

Health Insurance is required for all international students during their entire stay within the United States.

Students can obtain health insurance in their own country if the policy will cover them during their stay in the United States, or they may obtain it when they arrive.

There are many companies that offer insurance to international students through the internet. American ESL Academy recommends IOSA. Click the link below to go to their web site.

FAA Travel Information

Landing in the United States

Flights entering the United States will arrive at a port-of-entry. Before landing in the United States, a flight attendant will distribute an I-94 Form which you will need to fill out.

Although not all may be necessary, we suggest that you have the following documents with you as you pass through U.S. Customs.

  • F-1 Student Visa and dependents’ visas
  • Passport and dependents’ passports
  • Completed Form I-94 (given to you on the plane)
  • I-20
  • Letter of acceptance
  • Bank statements, income statements or a letter from an employer that guarantees financial support to the student together with evidence that the funds are available
  • I-901 receipt
  • Additional documents or forms

Once you land at the port of entry, you will go to the immigration counter and meet with a customs officer. He or she will review your documents and may ask you questions about your visa, the school you are attending, etc. They will then attach an I-94 card to your visa.

Click the link below for more information about U.S. Customs.
