Students Outside the U.S.
|
|
Students living outside the United States can obtain an F-1 visa by completing the following steps.
- Send the following documents to American ESL Academy by mail, fax or e-mail:
- Pay a non-refundable application and express carrier fee of $150 by wire transfer, check or money order, or by credit card.
Once American ESL Academy receives all the necessary documents and payment, we will process your I-20 and send it along with a letter of acceptance to you via express carrier.
- Once you receive your I-20 and letter of acceptance, log onto SEVIS at https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ ,submit an I-901 form and pay a $100 fee.
*Print a copy of your of I-901 receipt. You will need to take it to your appointment with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
- Contact the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate to schedule an appointment.
*Be sure to take the following documents with you to your appointment.
- I-20
- Letter of acceptance
- Passport and dependents’ passports
- Affidavit of Sponsor Support Form
- Bank statements, income statements or a letter from an employer that guarantees financial support to the student together with evidence that the funds are available
- I-901 receipt
- After your interview, contact American ESL Academy and let us know the result.

Transfer Students

Students presently studying in the United States on an F-1 visa may transfer to American ESL Academy by completing the following steps.
- Send the following documents to American ESL Academy by mail, fax, email or in person:
- Completed application (Click here to download an application.)
- Copy of student’s and all dependents’ current passports
- Copy of student’s I-20(s) from all the schools the student has previously attended
- Copy of student’s visa
- Copy of student’s I-94
- Print and sign a copy of the Student Transfer Form.

- Notify the school that you are presently attending of your decision to transfer to American ESL Academy and give them the Student Transfer Form to process.
- Please note that American ESL Academy cannot issue you a new I-20 until your current school releases your (SEVIS) student record to American ESL Academy.
- Your school must fax or send your Student Transfer Form directly to American ESL Academy.
- Pay a non-refundable application fee of $50 by wire transfer, check or money order, or by credit card.
Once American ESL Academy receives all the necessary documents and payment, we will process your I-20 and send it along with a letter of acceptance to you via express carrier.
- After you receive your F-1 visa, contact us for further instructions.

Students in the United States on a Different Visa
|

Because American ESL does not work directly with USCIS, we strongly recommend that students who wish change their visa status to an F-1 visa consult with an immigration lawyer or directly with USCIS.

You can begin the process of changing your current visa status to an F-1 visa by completing the following steps.
- Send the following documents to American ESL Academy by mail, fax or e-mail:
- Pay a non-refundable application and express carrier fee of $50 by wire transfer, check or money order, or by credit card.
Once American ESL Academy receives all the necessary documents and payment, we will process your I-20 and send it along with a letter of acceptance to you via express carrier.
- Once you receive your I-20 and letter of acceptance, log onto SEVIS at https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ ,submit an I-901 form and pay a $100 fee.
*Print a copy of your of I-901 receipt.
- You will then need to download, fill out and send a Form I-539 (application for change of status) to USCIS.

From this point we recommend that you consult an immigration lawyer (American ESL Academy can refer you to an immigration lawyer.) or USCIS. They will be able to help you fill out your Form I-539 and finish processing your change of visa status request.

Class Schedules
|
|
Classes for international students are taught Monday – Thursday.
Mornings: 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
|
Attendance Policy
|
|
American ESL Academy takes daily attendance and will comply with all federal regulations relating to nonimmigrant students.
International Students are expected to attend class at least 18 hours a week. Students with excessive absences and/or tardies may be reported to SEVIS, could risk having their visa status revoked and may be terminated from the program.
|
Grading Policy
|
|
Students are expected to participate in class, finish all in-class assignments, complete their homework and do well on exams.
Exams will be given to students during each course period, and students are expected to be prepared for each exam. Exams will be based on lessons and materials taught in class and students must pass each exam with a minimum of 75% in order to advance to the next course level. Students who do not score at least 75% on an exam may retake the exam at a later time. Students who are unable to attend class on an exam day may arrange another time to take the exam.
Students are also expected to improve and show progress in their reading, writing, speaking and understanding abilities. Students who fail to show improvements in their English or who regularly fail to complete their assignments and/or do poorly on their exams may be terminated from the program.

Health Insurance
|
|
Health Insurance is required for all international students during their entire stay within the United States.
Students can obtain health insurance in their own country if the policy will cover them during their stay in the United States, or they may obtain it when they arrive.
There are many companies that offer insurance to international students through the internet. American ESL Academy recommends IOSA. Click the link below to go to their web site.
